A remarkable 19th-century Asante throne, hand-carved in hardwood with a leather seat and profuse brass sheet and stud decoration. Its X-frame silhouette recalls early European folding chairs, while the carved Wisdom Knot motif on the front and back rails symbolises intelligence, unity and considered leadership. A sculptural piece with ceremonial presence, finished with decorative brass finials.
